Hello
My name is Caitlin Reid; I am an Occupational Therapist with over ten years of experience working with older adults. I am NBCOT certified and hold dual licensure in both Tennessee and California. My experience in Home Health & Skilled Nursing has given me a passion for getting my patients home and keeping them there!
My Story
As an Occupational Therapist, and Rehab director, I was starting to notice one common trend with my patients: they all want to go home! And of course, we all want to be able to live as safely and independently as possible. In fact, according to the National Institute of Health, 90% of adults over the age of 65 would prefer to stay in their current residence as they age. During my time working with older adults, I’ve noticed a few common barriers to patients returning home. The first is overall Medicare and Managed care insurance models which are prioritizing shorter length of stays in hospitals and skilled nursing facilities. The second, is lack of training provided to family members and care givers! Often in the skilled nursing setting, one or two 30-minute sessions may be offered at the end of the patient’s stay.
So, what can we do? We can navigate caring for an older loved one, in their home, with confidence. By learning specific strategies, from a skilled and licensed OT, you will have the knowledge and support to keep your loved one home.
That's why I created Care with Confidence: OT strategies for Home. I wanted to make caregiver training easy, affordable and accessible to give family members the confidence they need to provide excellent care.
